We started Forty as two software engineers who wanted to work together to create software we'd love to use every day, and maybe one day build a company around it. Why forty? We really like the number 40 and believe it can be used for many things (like never having more than 40 employees).
We started by thinking about how businesses will manage spending in the AI world. After Coinbase's public announcement of the X402 protocol in May 2025, we began exploring agentic commerce and how agents can make autonomous payments. We believe stablecoins and X402 are the perfect foundation for a future where AI agents can transact autonomously.
Currently, we're exploring how to enable humans and businesses to participate in the Agent Economy.
